First edition of the IFR Champions Cup: How it played out? https://foracauseevents.com/first-edition-of-the-ifr-champions-cup-how-it-played-out/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=first-edition-of-the-ifr-champions-cup-how-it-played-out Tue, 31 Mar 2020 07:43:25 +0000 http://foracauseevents.com/?p=747

In the first year, this state-of-the-art football tournament was organised just over a five-month period (May to September 2018). It supported Puttinu Cares and ALS Malta and hosted 32 teams from the three major industries in Malta.

Opening Ceremony

One of the main aims of the event was to bring people together and foster business development. The Opening Ceremony was organised at the InterContinental hotel and we were honoured to have he following individuals present who gave their speeches and insight on their respective sectors. In no order of preference, there was Mr. Russell Mifsud (Associate Director in iGaming at KPMG Malta), Dr. Abdalla Kablan (CEO of the Delta Summit), Mr. Steve Mercieca (CEO and Founder of QuickLets & Zanzi Homes),  Mr. Johan Zammit (CEO of the Malta Innovation Summit), Mr. Nathan Farrugia (CEO of Ultimate Performance – Level UP and TED Speaker).

The evening was compered by the well-renowned X Factor (Malta) host Mr. Ben Camille and featured local celebrities, Ms. Tamara Webb and Ms. Christabelle Borg.

Apart from the speeches, we came up with the idea of having a Live Draw very similar to the one we are accustomed to seeing on TV featuring the Champion’s League draw. Guests were able to see in real time which team they would be grouped up with, and this helped create a sense of excitement and anticipation for the next two days of football.

The night closed with an open bar and finger food reception where all our guests were able to interact and network with one another whilst being provided with entertainment from the very talented magician, Mr. Brian Role.

IFR Village and Tournament

Whilst the IFR Champions Cup games were ongoing at the Marsa Sports Ground, we set up a 40m by 15m tent where various companies and sponsors were afforded space to put up their stands where they promoted their products and services, whilst visitors and participating teams enjoyed the chill- out vibe in the lounge area.

With music from 89.7 Bay and Red Bull’s ‘London Cab’ DJ booth together with haircuts and beard trims given by the incomparable Mando, a FIFA game stand, VR games, and various food stands, the IFR Village was a fantastic place seething with activity, yet, at the same time offered players and guests a place where they could enjoy themselves and relax in between games or whilst games were ongoing.

The winners of the tournament were Cro-Ser Ltd after closely beating the Malta Developers Association in the final. The score ended 2-0 in favour of the architecture/construction consulting company which participated on behalf of the real estate industry.

It was an extremely fun-packed football weekend for everyone involved and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teams for the fair play shown all throughout the tournament.

Second IFR Champions Cup in the bag. What was different from one year to the next? https://foracauseevents.com/second-ifrchampions-cup-in-the-bag-what-was-different-from-one-year-to-the-next/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=second-ifrchampions-cup-in-the-bag-what-was-different-from-one-year-to-the-next Thu, 26 Mar 2020 08:42:27 +0000 http://foracauseevents.com/?p=727

Following the success of the first edition of the IFR Champions Cup, the For a Cause Events team were eagerly anticipating the planning for what indeed was a grander IFR Champions Cup 2019.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony was held at the Kind’s Mercedes Showroom and was truly a spectacular evening enjoyed by all. The night, hosted by the well renowned XFM Radio presenters Oz & Jay kicked off with speakers talking about their respective industries. There was Mr. Rick Goddard (former SiGMA CCO on behalf of iGaming), Mr. Jean-Michel Azzopardi (CEO of Kralanx on behalf of Fintech), Mr. Steve Mercieca (Co-Founder and CEO of QuickLets & Zanzi Homes on behalf of Real Estate), Mr. Pierre Brincat (Head of Women’s Football in Malta).

With Oz & Jay pulling all sorts of jokes from under their sleeve, the night progressed to the Live Draw, which saw local celebrities Ms. Taryn Mamo Cefai and Mr. Rowen Muscat up on stage announcing the company teams.

The last part of the night was the lovely open bar networking and business development reception where all enjoyed delicious finger food provided by Gourmet Bar & Grill and Salumeria. The super magician Mr. Brian Role and a live DJ/Violinist duo that were brought down all the way from Serbia, had all who attended truly entertained.

IFR Village and Tournament

The 2019 IFR Village encompassed a larger tent measuring over 1,200 sqm, featuring an inside/outside lounge and eatery area, company stands, entertainment stands, including a variety of food stands.

The tournament consisted of 36 male teams and 5 female teams. Betsson Group as one of our main sponsors also had their own mini tent set-up where they invited families and friends of Betsson players to enjoy a family day with us.

Main Prize

The winning team of the 2019 IFR Champions Cup has won an organised trip and participation in the Continental Football League (CFL) in Moscow this coming May. 8-aside is a growing format of mini football popular in some countries even more than 6-aside, The Russian Minifootball Federation has been organising the 8-aside CFL since 2016 and it is the largest, best and strongest 8-aside tournament in the world. EMF mini football recognises the event in its annual calendar and is encouraging national associations and clubs to participate in this amazing event.
